Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:8-9)
I’ve been working on a new goal in my relationship with Christ – to focus on him throughout the day. It’s one of the most difficult things I’ve tried to do. I forget all the time, I get wrapped in work or life stuff and forget to think about him. I’ve been thinking about something my brother-in-law did when my mother needed major surgery – he fasted that day. Every time he was hungry he instead turned to God and prayed. That impressed me then and still does today. And that’s what I’ve been trying to do – every time I even think I’m hungry, I say a quick thank you to God for all he has done for me. And usually, I don’t eat. I count that as a double win!
I love the verse above though because it’s even a better reminder on how to focus on God throughout the day. Starting today, I’m going to praise God whenever I see something true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy.
I just came up with a great ideas of how to make this happen. I’m going to look at it like a scavenger hunt. How many awesome things can I find today? Oh I wish I’d thought of this sooner – it would have been a great way to help my kids focus on the good around them too!
I’ve been wanting to start a gratitude journal – instead I’m going to start an Awesome Journal – a place for me to list all the wonderful things I’ve seen that day.
Thank you Lord for opening my eyes on how to focus on the beauty and joy in the world. I cannot wait to celebrate them with you. Amen.
